How to Calculate Water Tank Capacity in Liters and gallons

To calculate the water tank capacity in liters and gallons, you need to know the dimensions of the tank.

Steps to calculate water tank capacity

1. First step is to calculate the volume of the tank

2. If the tank is rectangular in shape, use this formula

Volume (V)= Length x width x height

or

If the tank is in a cylinder shape, use this formula

V= 3.14 r2h or V= 3.14 r2d

Where,

R = radius of the tank

H = Height of the tank

D = Depth of the tank

3. Convert the volume into liters or gallons

Unit conversion for water tank capacity

1.  CFT to Litres conversion

To convert cubic feet (cft) to liters (L), you need to multiply the number of cubic feet by 28.3168.

So, the formula to convert cubic feet to liters is:

Liters = Cubic feet x 28.3168

For example, if you have a water tank with a volume of 10 cubic feet, you can convert it to liters using the formula:

Liters = 10 cft x 28.3168 = 283.168 L

Therefore, 10 cubic feet is equivalent to 283.168 liters.

2. Litres to gallon

To convert liters (L) to US gallons (gal), you need to divide the number of liters by 3.78541.

So, the formula to convert liters to gallons is:

Gallons = Liters / 3.78541

For example, if you have a water tank with a capacity of 500 liters, you can convert it to US gallons using the formula:

Gallons = 500 L / 3.78541 = 132.086 gal

Therefore, 500 liters is equivalent to 132.086 US gallons.

3. cubic meters (m3) to liters

To convert cubic meters (m³) to liters (L), you need to multiply the number of cubic meters by 1000.

So, the formula to convert cubic meters to liters is:

Liters = Cubic meters x 1000

For example, if you have a water tank with a volume of 2 cubic meters, you can convert it to liters using the formula:

Liters = 2 m³ x 1000 = 2000 L

Therefore, 2 cubic meters is equivalent to 2000 liters.

Problem-based on the rectangular water tank

We have rectangular shape water tanks of length, width, and height of the water tank are 2 meters, 1 meter, and 1.5 meters, respectively. Calculate the water tank capacity in liters and gallons

Solution

The volume of the tank is:

2m x 1m x 1.5m = 3 cubic meters (3m3)

To convert the volume to liters, multiply by 1000:

3 x 1000 = 3000 liters

To convert the volume to gallons, divide the number of liters by 3.78541

3000/3.78541 = 792.51 gallons

Therefore, the capacity of the water tank is 3000 liters or 792.51 gallons.

Problem-based on the cylindrical water tank

A water tank that is in the shape of a cylinder with a radius of 2 feet and a height of 6 feet. Calculate the water tank capacity.

Given

Radius = 2 feet

Height = 6 feet

Solution

The volume of the cylindrical shape tank =3.14 x r2 x h

or

π x r2 x h

Volume = 3.14 x 2×2 x 6 = 75.36 cft

In Litres = 75.36 x 28.3168 = 2133.95 L

In gallons = 2133.95/ 3.78541 = 563.73 Gallons
